Bio

Victor Fontoura is a Brazilian filmmaker, theater director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and clown based in NYC and RJ. He holds an MFA in Cinema Arts from Brooklyn College – Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema and a degree in Theatre Directing from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2015, he wrote and directed his first short film “Média”, an analogy between the Middle Ages and Brazil’s conservative middle class in the 21st century, which was presented at MAR – Museu de Arte do Rio. His short film “The 2nd Act”, inspired by his own experience with sexual assault, which he wrote, directed, and produced, has been screened at numerous film festivals around the world and has won multiple awards. In Brazil, his last work as a director and producer was the LGBTQ+ play “Nascituros”, about a gay playwright who was prohibited from writing about his previous relationship. Since 2013, Victor has researched and trained in clown and mask techniques, and from 2016 to 2018, he was part of the medical clowning project “Enfermaria do Riso” in Rio de Janeiro. As an actor, he has participated in the W.A.V.E. project, performing a forum play for Brazilian communities in NY and NJ that addresses domestic violence against immigrant women.
